WHAT: Alabama State University's Dr. Derryn Moten featured in lecture & book signing on early Dr. King biography.
WHEN: Thursday (Sept. 6) @ 7 p.m. (E.S.T.)
WHERE: Carter Presidential Library & Museum, 441 Freedom Pkwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30307

The Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta will host a lecture on Thursday (Sept. 6) at 7 p.m. (EST) by Alabama State University's Dr. Derryn Moten (chairman of its Dept. of History & Political Science) on the acclaimed biography by Lawrence Red****’s of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that is titled: “Crusader Without Violence,” which was first published in 1959.

This 60th anniversary edition of the King biography has a new introduction in it by ASU's Dr. Moten, who is an acclaimed professor of history, and whose scholarly opinions have been reported by numerous national media outlets about civil rights, government and politics.

Moten said he is excited about his new introduction in this important early King biography, and about his appearance at the Carter Presidential Library for many reasons.

"The first vote that I cast in a Presidential election was for Jimmy Carter, and the first inauguration that I ever attended was his in Washington, D.C.," Moten said. "To be present at his library discussing the book introduction that I wrote for one of the greatest leaders of all times, Dr. King, is a heady time for a historian like me who holds them both as important men of peace and purpose," Moten added.

Thursday's lecture and book signing is free and open to the public, and former President Carter is scheduled to appear at it.

Moten's remarks at the introduction of the 60th anniversary reprint of the King biography has drawn praise from many academics, including a renowned faculty member from Vanderbilt University.

“The re-publication of this book, with a new introduction by Dr. Derryn Moten, places in bold relief the possibility that it will remain the seminal work on the most celebrated religious and civil rights figure in twentieth century America, ”said Dr. Lewis V. Baldwin, professor at Vanderbilt University.
