Job Description
Health Technician
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/11/2019. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: . Experience working as a primary timekeeper, Collects and prepares laboratory specimens for transport to laboratory, Performs basic waived testing such as finger-stick glucose testing, post-void residual/bladder ultrasound scan (BVI/use bladder scanner). Maintains inventory and needed supply of all reusable medical equipment (RME), instruments,devices, supplies in the clinical areas such as podiatry clippers, non-disposable vaginal speculums, non-disposable anal speculums, non-disposable nasal speculums, non-disposable scalpels, non-disposable scissors,etc. Performs and documents in the electronic medical record, electrocardiograms (EKG) obtained using electrocardiographic equipment such as a 12-lead electrocardiogram and accessories. At least two years experience as telemetry technician/nursing assistant/health tech. Experience using medical equipment (i.e., vital sign machines, computerized medical record systems, etc. Experience providing one to one care for patients, including those with suicidal and/or homicidal ideation. Current BLS or BART certification preferred. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:
ClericalDiagnostic Medical TestingInfection ControlOrganizational StewardshipSpecimen Collection Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Heavy Lifting (45 lbs and over); Light carrying(under 15 lbs), Pushing, Reaching above shoulder, Use of fingers; Both hands required, Walking, Standing, Both legs required ; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, depth perception, Ability to distinguish basic colors and Hearing (aid permitted). Other: no pacemaker, repetitive keyboarding. Environmental Factors: Excessive noise, intermittent, Radiant energy, Working closely with others.
