Associate Dean for Research
Associate Dean for Research
CUNY School of Medicine
The City College of New York
New York, NY

CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) and The City College of New York (CCNY) invites inquiries, nominations and applications for Associate Dean for Research. Reporting to the Dean of the Medical School and serving as a vital member of the College’s senior executive team, the associate dean for research will provide vision, innovation and leadership to build on the successes of distinguished faculty across this mission-driven College and School of Medicine. The new associate dean for research will partner with senior CSOM leadership and faculty to create and realize an ambitious vision for the research enterprise to both leverage current strengths and to be proactive in addressing the challenging national and global research environment. The new associate dean will have the unique opportunity to help steer the trajectory of biomedical research in this nascent medical school.

The CUNY School of Medicine is a seven-year BS/MD program which admitted its first class in 2016. The program is based on the success of the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education founded in 1973 specifically to address societal issues related to care of the underserved and the numbers of underrepresented minority physicians. Its transformation into becoming a fully accredited medical school has created exciting opportunities for growth and expansion.

CSOM is committed to advancing research and scholarship in disciplinary and interdisciplinary endeavors by supporting a wide range of scholarship, including scientific activities for addressing local, national and global health needs, as well as basic and translational research. CSOM faculty and student researchers are engaged to expand research to improve medical knowledge, health and health care both locally and in a global society. The faculty have broad research interests, ranging from cellular and molecular mechanisms of biological systems to the social determinants of health and disease. The current research strengths include neuroscience and brain disorders, immunology, epidemiology, social and behavioral interventions and health disparities.

Candidates should hold a terminal degree in their respective fields, demonstrate a strong track record in scholarly publications and have an on-going individual research program with sustained funding. The candidate must demonstrate experience in research program building, strategic planning, success in obtaining external research support and in expanding extramural research funding for their institutions.

The ideal candidate will display innovative solutions to support research endeavors across the disciplines of the CUNY School of Medicine faculty; provide strong administrative leadership skills to bolster key infrastructure to enhance and sustain research capacity; and possess deep knowledge about diverse funding mechanisms.
