Therapeutic Recreation Program Summer Intern|
The Therapeutic Recreation Program Intern will assist LRT/CTRS in the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of the day-to-day coordination and supervision of individuals with varying of levels of ability and health who are participating in the Therapeutic Recreation Program. The intern will work with individuals of various ages, skills, abilities, and interests.
This is a 15 week, 600-hour internship that falls within NCRTC standards for students following the academic path to certification. Work schedule will be Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm with some evenings and weekends. Contract dates will be May 7th, 2018 thru August 17th, 2018.
Intern will be paid a stipend total of $2500 (will be split into monthly payments).
This internship position will NOT be eligible for benefits, paid leave time (vacation, sick, holiday) nor participation in the retirement system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day coordination and supervision of various activities and services in a community setting that will be administered by Asheville Parks & Recreation-Therapeutic Recreation Program staff. Areas of assignments may include: Adapted Sports, Senior Programs, Special Events, Social Clubs, Outings, Outreach Programs for Veterans, and Summer Day Camps just to name a few.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to work in a variety of settings, including an office setting using standard office equipment
Knowledge and ability to use standard office equipment
Ability to lead group activities
Ability to effectively communicate
Knowledge and understanding of therapeutic recreation techniques
Knowledge of a variety of disabilities
Enjoys working with individuals with a variety of disabilities
Ability to work independently at times.
General knowledge of the methods and practices of community recreation work including knowledge of the equipment and techniques, relevant rules and regulations of social, artistic, craft and/or athletic programs for children.
Ability to instruct common recreational activities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, program participants and the general public.
Ability to enforce rules and regulations and maintain discipline.
Ability to prepare and maintain records.
Qualifications & Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Currently enrolled in a four-year college or university in a Therapeutic Recreation, or Recreational Therapy program.
