As the lead administrator of the University libraries, the University librarian will set the standard of intellectual engagement and accomplishment for the University’s libraries, archives, and special collections.
Working with talented and accomplished faculty and staff, the University Librarian will provide vision, strategic direction, and operational leadership to meet the University’s educational Christian mission and ambitious goals for growth. The University Librarian will create an environment that ensures the highest quality and effectiveness in service. Supporting the University’s research mission, the University Librarian will help advance the scholarly activities of the faculty, including supporting interdisciplinary opportunities. He or she will also assure that the libraries play a strong role in supporting faith integration. The University Librarian will be the public voice of the libraries, promoting initiatives within Azusa Pacific University, in the City of Azusa, and across the state and region. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Graduate Programs and Research, this person will work collaboratively with senior administrators and academic leaders across the University.
The successful candidate will be a nationally recognized, entrepreneurial, Christian scholar with demonstrated success as a leader committed to the search for knowledge, a deep understanding of the needs of a research university, strong experience as a seasoned administrator, and the ability to imagine new possibilities for APU’s libraries, archives, and special collections.
Education and Experience:
Requires a Master's degree in Library Information Sciences or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution and a second master’s degree or a doctorate degree. Candidates should also have at least five full-time years of post-secondary leadership experience or equivalent in academic librarianship.
Workload: Full-time, 12-month administrative position with a concurrent appointment as a faculty member.
