Responsibilities: This position oversees a department within the School of Health , Wellness, and Public Safety that includes the Fire Science, Emergency Medical Sciences (Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic), Fitness, Criminal Justice, Cosmetology and Paralegal Studies programs.
The associate dean assists the dean with providing organizational and administrative leadership for the purpose of maintaining CNM's strong educational programs.
Responsibilities include personnel, operational oversight of instructional facilities, leadership, planning, departmental process coordination, and communication that support high quality academic delivery. To ensure compliance with federal and college requirements some mandatory training must be completed for this position.
Essential Duties:
1.Hires, supervises, mentors, evaluates, and oversees professional development for part-time faculty and instructional support staff
2.Approves part-time faculty assignments
3.Participates in hiring full-time faculty
4.Assists the dean by coordinating the process and making recommendations for full-time faculty assignments
5.Supports professional development for faculty and coordinates New Employee Orientation Phase II for all new faculty
6.Promotes diversity in staffing, curriculum, programs, and instructional delivery and design
7.Participates in leadership development for department chairs
8.Provides leadership for school initiatives
9.Participates in the development of a data-based, student centered master schedule
10.Participates in curricula, program changes, and new program development
11.Participates in departmental processes including program review, program accreditation, and course, discipline, and school assessment
12.Assists the dean with the school strategic planning process, which anticipates the future, formulates and updates school goals and objectives, and evaluates accomplishments
13.Participates in planning, compiling, and advocating for facilities and equipment resources in support of academic planning
14.Provides oversight of instructional facility maintenance in support of academic delivery (e.g., safety, inventory, and direct cross-divisional communication
15.Ensures adherence to school and college policy and procedures
16.Mediates student issues and grade appeals
17.Serves as secondary fiscal Control Agent and assists with fiscal matters
18.Participates in the development of alternative funding streams and oversight of grant and Foundation requests
Additional Duties:
1.Serves on or conducts school and college teams serving as communication liaison in those initiatives
2.Provides for effective administration of and adherence to all CNM Board policies, college regulations, and collective bargaining agreements
3.Performs all other duties as assigned
